Compared to nearby schools, Heritage High School has a more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (34.89%) and Pacific Islander (3.26%) students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 53.13% of Heritage High School students were proficient or better in SBAC/English Language Arts, compared to 56.47% in the district and 66.2% statewide. The school also has a lower four-year graduation rate (85.9% in 2022-2023) and a higher dropout rate (12.1% in 2022-2023) compared to nearby Henrietta Lacks Health and Bioscience High School.

The data reveals significant racial disparities in academic performance at Heritage High School, with Asian and Hispanic students ranking 104th and 156th, respectively, out of all Washington high schools, while White students ranked 311th in the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, the school has a higher percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (68.06% in 2022-2023) compared to nearby schools, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families. These socioeconomic factors may be contributing to the school's lower academic performance and higher dropout rates, highlighting the need for targeted interventions and support to address the unique needs of the student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I graduated from Heritage High School in 2009, and while I and many of my peers were able to succeed in that environment, I watched many students fail.
This isn't entirely on the fault of the staff; as a current university student studying education, I can see with a better lens that a lot of things going on there are working. I had a lot of really good teachers that really cared about how well we were doing as learners and as people, and who valued the actual learning taking place in the classroom over test scores. That being said, there is approximately one teacher for every three that either doesn't care or isn't invested for some reason. I was lucky enough to receive very few of these, but a lot of my friends weren't, and I'd assume that many of my classmates did as well, because out of a freshman class of over 500, we graduated around 340. That's unacceptable.
However, the staff that does care is great, and the staff that participates in many of the school's extra curriculars is awesome. I participated in a large number of clubs and sports while I was there, and only once did I have an issue with a coach.
While I myself enjoyed my time in this high school, I'm not sure that I would recommend it to anyone else. Close Quote

Open Quote Hi and I go to HHS and I love it there. I only go there for half the day, but I love going there. My first year there was new and fun. The school has sprite. softmore year I had to move schools, because of where I lived, and I had to go to a brand new school. I didn't like it there, I didn't feel like I fit in. All the friend I made there where from HHS. Halfway through the year I moved and had to go back to HHS, I was so happy to be going back there. My junior year was the best, I want there for half the day, I went there in the morning, and in the afternoon I want to skill center, in the applied medical science 1, AMS1. This new year will be the best, my senor year. This year I will be in skill center agen, but not in AMS2, there was not enough room for everyone to be in AMS2, so I am in restaurant management and cooking. It will be the most funniest year ever, and the most hardest year ever, to get strait A's is the hardest, and I plan to get them. I cant what it start school agen.

LOTS OF LOVE
:) TH (: Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
