Stevenson Elementary

Summary:

Stevenson Elementary is a public elementary school in Bellevue, Washington, serving 532 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Bellevue School District, which is ranked 18th out of 247 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating.

Stevenson Elementary faces several challenges, including a diverse student population with a high percentage of Hispanic (40.98%) and Asian (42.67%) students, as well as a significant number of economically disadvantaged students (41.49% to 53.01% receive free or reduced-price lunch). The school's academic performance, as measured by SBAC and WCAS test scores, is consistently lower than the Bellevue School District and Washington state averages across all grades and subjects, particularly for Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) student subgroups. Stevenson Elementary's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from 333rd out of 1,067 Washington elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 877th out of 1,168 in 2023-2024.

Interestingly, nearby schools like Cherry Crest Elementary and Bennett Elementary consistently outperform Stevenson Elementary on academic measures, despite serving similar student populations in the Bellevue School District. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Stevenson Elementary to learn from the practices and strategies employed by these higher-performing schools to improve its educational outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Eh, it was an OK experience for me. I'm a middle school student living in Texas now, and I used to live in Bellevue, where I attended Stevenson for kindergarten through 3rd grade. The teachers were nice, but the education definitely could have been better. The extracurricular activities (music, art, p.e., etc.) were amazing, though! I remember music as my favorite class of the week. Of course, that was years back. I suppose everything has changed now. Judging from the horribly low test score this and last year, I don't think your children should attend Stevenson. I would suggest enrolling your child in a private school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
