Amboy Middle School

Summary:

Amboy Middle School is a public middle school in Amboy, Washington, serving 549 students in grades 5-8. It is part of the Battle Ground School District, which is ranked 87 out of 247 school districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Amboy Middle School stands out for its high percentage of white students (91.99%) compared to surrounding schools, as well as its generally stronger academic performance in English Language Arts (ELA) and Science assessments compared to the district and state averages. However, the school's Math proficiency rates tend to be lower than the district and state. Additionally, Amboy Middle School's performance for female, male, and low socioeconomic status (SES) students is stronger than the state averages, but its performance for white and special education students is weaker. The school also has a higher per-student spending and a higher student-teacher ratio than the state average.

While Amboy Middle School has maintained a relatively consistent academic performance over the years, its statewide ranking has declined from 109 out of 443 Washington middle schools in 2015-2016 to 205 out of 535 in 2023-2024, despite maintaining a 3-star rating. This suggests that the school may be facing challenges in keeping up with the performance of higher-performing nearby schools, such as Hockinson Middle School and Sunset Ridge Intermediate School, which are part of the Ridgefield School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote very poor teaching staff. The 7th grade has the worst in the school. Their are a few great teachers. Office staff is rude Principal really needs to retire, she push her jobs to other staff members. The vice Principal isn't much better. If you are willing to drive, It is worth your time to put your kid in another middle school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
