Twinfield Union School

Summary:

Twinfield Union School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Plainfield, Vermont, with a total enrollment of 319 students as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school has a predominantly White student population, with smaller percentages of African American, Hispanic, Asian, and students of two or more races.

While Twinfield Union School's test scores in English Language Arts and Mathematics are generally lower than the state averages across most grade levels, the school outperformed the state in 8th grade Science. The school has a relatively high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 33.66% to 40.33% over the past three school years, which is higher than the nearby Blue Mountain Union School (44.53%) and Danville School (23.43%), but lower than Cabot School (42.07%). Twinfield Union School's per-student spending of $15,377 in the 2018-2019 school year is higher than Blue Mountain Union School ($13,058) and Danville School ($11,959), but lower than Cabot School ($15,053).

Twinfield Union School has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 8.1 to 8.7 over the past three school years, which is lower than Blue Mountain Union School (11.4) and similar to Cabot School (8.2). The school's more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of non-White students compared to the nearby schools, may contribute to its lower academic performance, but the school's higher spending per student and lower student-teacher ratio suggest that it is allocating more resources towards supporting its students' learning and development.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Some of the faculty/staff smoke pot on their breaks, some faculty/stuff are friends with students, some faculty/staff bully students, students bully students, students bully some faculty/staff. There are a few respectable teachers and very few respectable students. There have been several drop-outs I've seen. Former students have broken into and vandalized the school. A good portion of students do not go to college. I wouldn't recommend this school for anybodies kids due to my personal experiences. I have been interrupted and unable to present projects due to teachers lack of intervention. Teachers impose their views on students. Overall bad environment for kids! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
