Open Quote The information on this site is a bit dated.
As word is getting out about PCWS the school has been growing rapidly and now has around 60 students.
The programs for 2011-2012 school year will include:
Parent-Newborn programs.
Parent-Child programs
2 day pre-kindergarten
3 day pre-kindergarten
5 day kindergarten
Afternoon program (optional for pre-K and K children)
Grades 1, 2, 3.

Pros:
Student teach ratios are low, teachers are excellent, good feeling of community and shared values, families self-select for the school, grades in 2011-12 are expected to have between 8-12 kids / class (unheard of), tuition is below average for private schools in the DC metro area. Strong oral and reading comprehension, math, imagination and play, visual and sensual perception, art (drawing, painting), music (singing daily, wind and string instruments in grades), crafts (textile, woodworking, molding), and development of inner personal strength (so called "will forces").

Cons:
School playground is small, but that said, the faculty make great use of the space and have been very creative in finding other spaces and getting beyond the confines of the school grounds.
School is growing beyond its present space and needs to find more facilities in terms of classrooms, outdoor space, and parking - that can be taken as a sign that the school is quickly growing. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
