Open Quote It is a wonderful school with that really honors each individual child. My child has been inspired to learn, loves going to school, and has developed into kind, empathetic young lady. I have nothing but praise for the teachers, staff and parents here. I could not be more impressed with my child's teachers and the enrichment my child receives at this school. Close Quote

Open Quote The Friends school is not very friendly, especially to children on the Autism spectrum. In the case of my daughter who is a high functioning autistic student who maintains a "A" average in VB public schools, she encountered what I believe as "descrimination" towards her condition during her two day initiation to the school. We met with the admissions director, paid a $100 fee and scheduled a 2 day initiation visit to the school. When I brought her to the school, I was definitely concerned with the age of the buildings, the uncleanliness and the lack of technology (VB public schools are light years ahead) in the class rooms. However, what really disturbed me was the lack of organization for this welcoming event. A couple of students were sent to pick up my daughter with no set agenda. Apparently during the day, they had an incident with my daughter during class where she confused about an assignment and became agitated, and immediately called me to pick her up. Instead of trying to work with her they immediately gave up. Upon picking her up, the staff looked very confused and were not able to explain to me why I was picking her up early. I met with one of teachers and he told me there was an issue with a couple of his student's whereby they were hard with her because she did not understand the assignment. My daughter understandably became agitated, but calmed down quickly. He stated it was just her not being familiar with their program. No one else was available to discuss any issues that occurred during her day. They just told me that the admissions director would call us. Later in the day, another person on the staff called to tell me that I should not bring my daughter in for the second day because she did not fit into their program. Still no explanation of what happened on the previous day. My wife tried to call the admissions director, however, she never bothered to call back. While I admit that this school was not a good fit for my daughter, I found that the Friends staff were VERY unprofessional, not very friendly and VERY unorganized. For the tuition that you pay, this is unacceptable since there are much better options in this city. As for us, we plan to keep our daughter in public school. Close Quote

Open Quote Virginia Beach Friends school has had numerous cases of lice. In fact there is a lice outbreak going around in the high school now. This school is unkempt and the classes are in disarray. The high school teachers are vulgar and have no respect for the parents. Close Quote

Open Quote Virginia Beach Friends school is the WORST school in Va Beach. The high school teachers do not teach instead they decide to pop in a movie or relax at their desk the whole class period. The students do not learn instead they play on the school computers and go on social networking sites (like facebook, twitter, tumblr,YouTube,). The principal and the teachers put in no effort to stop this unnecessary computer usage. Instead as stated before they are in their class room watching movies and relaxing at their desk. This school has absolutely no structure and no leadership quality. Ever since this school has gotten a new head principal it has changed for the WORST. - I am a former teacher at virginia beach friends school and recently have resigned to teach at Norfolk academy which has all the qualities Friends school lacks. Open Quote Virginia Beach Friends School is the WORST school in Virginia Beach. My grandson attended this school for a short period of time before I switched him to Cape Henry. He would go to this school and not learn anything. The teachers goof off more then they teach. My grandson would continuously get sick with upper respiratory infections since the school was never cleaned. The principal and staff never made it a point to hire a janitor even though tuition was outrageously high. Close Quote

Open Quote I sent my son to this school his freshman year and I am very disgusted with the way they treated him due to the COLOR OF HIS SKIN. The TEACHERS DID NOT TREAT HIM EQUALLY. MY SON MADE A'S AND B'S but YET THEY STILL LOOKED DOWN UPON HIM. THEY MADE RACIAL SLURS AND TREATED HIM LIKE HE WAS AN OUTCAST. THEY MADE HIM FEEL LIKE HE WASN'T APART OF THEIR COMMUNITY. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH THIS SCHOOL AND THEIR LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM AND EQUALITY!!! EVERYONE SHOULD BE TREATED AS A EQUAL DISREGARDING THEIR SKIN COLOR. I PUT MY SON IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT AND HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT! AT LEAST THERE HE CAN BE WHO HE IS AND NOT JUST A "BLACK BOY AT FRIENDS."

-A CONCERNED PARENT. " THIS SCHOOL SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE NAACP. WHICH I AM APART OF AND THIS SCHOOL SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN DUE TO THE NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY. THIS IS NOT THE 1960'S WERE IN 2011. NOR WAS IT ACCEPTABLE THEN IT SURELY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE NOW! Close Quote

Open Quote Virginia Beach friends school was a very small school with a great future and is great now. The small environment makes the student to teacher ratio about 5 to 5. The amount of activity the kids get outside is marvelous with about the kids spending at least 1 hour posibbly 2 outdorrs learning very intresting things. There is physical ed every day which somedays may be health class. The students at VBFS are assigned a partner one may be younger or one may be older or both depening on your grade level Overall i wish VBFS was a college so i could send my children the for much longer. Great School. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
