The school is part of the Henrico County Public Schools district, which is ranked 88 out of 130 school districts in Virginia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Ridge Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of Virginia elementary schools, with significantly below-average performance on SOL (Standards of Learning) tests across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 44.93% of 3rd graders, 37.5% of 4th graders, and 33.33% of 5th graders were proficient or better in SOL Mathematics, compared to 65.93%, 66.24%, and 66.47% for Henrico County, respectively. The school's diverse student population includes a high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 88.2% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Ridge Elementary's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner (ELL) students.

The nearby schools in the Henrico County Public Schools district, such as R.C. Longan Elementary, Charles M. Johnson Elementary, and Tuckahoe Elementary, generally perform significantly better than Ridge Elementary on academic measures. For instance, Tuckahoe Elementary, located just 1.51 miles away, consistently ranks in the top 5% of Virginia elementary schools and outperforms Ridge Elementary by a wide margin on SOL tests. Despite the school's low academic performance, Ridge Elementary spends a relatively high amount per student and has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, suggesting that the school may require substantial interventions and support to improve educational outcomes for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have had three children go through Ridge, two are still there, and all three have loved the school. I am a room parent, and I agree with my kids. The school is filled with teachers and assistants. It is a title 1 school, which means that kids get extra attention with all of their school work. The children are diverse to say the least, giving my kids a multi cultural learning experience. I have no complaints, I am looking to move and hope that I can stay in the district. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
