Alice West Fleet Elementary

Summary:

Alice West Fleet Elementary is a public elementary school in Arlington, Virginia, serving 614 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Arlington County Public Schools district, which is ranked 26 out of 130 school districts in Virginia.

Alice West Fleet Elementary has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White and Asian students compared to nearby schools. The school outperforms the Arlington County Public Schools and Virginia state averages in several key academic areas, including 3rd grade mathematics, 4th grade mathematics, and 4th grade English reading. The school's performance has been consistent, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past two school years. However, the school's performance is relatively lower for Hispanic students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, suggesting a need to address achievement gaps for these subgroups.

Nearby magnet schools, such as Claremont Immersion and Arlington Science Focus School, have higher academic performance in several areas compared to Alice West Fleet Elementary, potentially due to their more specialized programs and resources. Additionally, the school's relatively high per-student spending and low student-teacher ratio suggest a focus on providing resources and support for students, but the lower performance of students from low-income backgrounds indicates that additional targeted interventions may be needed to address socioeconomic disparities.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school. As a military family, we moved to Arlington this year (2012) and have a first and third grader at Patrick Henry. We could not be any happier with the school and the teachers. Classes are engaging but challenging - my kids are given a good bit of homework that seems to do a good job incorporating ideas from across the curriculum into the work. The teachers have done a good job assessing our kids and giving them appropriate level assignments. The Principal and PTA are extremely active, much more than we saw at previous schools, which has been a welcome change. Overall, Patrick Henry has been terrific - I would highly recommend it to any inbound families. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
