Cherry Creek School

Summary:

Cherry Creek School is an elementary school in Springville, Utah, serving 505 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Nebo School District, which is ranked 55 out of 98 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cherry Creek School stands out from its neighboring schools due to its more diverse student population, with around 22-25% of students identifying as Hispanic, compared to over 70% White at nearby schools. Additionally, Cherry Creek has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 29% to 45% in recent years, which is notably higher than the nearby schools, generally under 20%. However, Cherry Creek's test scores on the RISE assessments tend to lag behind the state and district averages, as well as the nearby schools, such as Hobble Creek School, Rees School, and Maple Ridge School.

While Cherry Creek School's performance lags behind its peers, the data shows that there is room for improvement. The school's ranking has fluctuated between the 300s and 400s out of around 550-560 elementary schools in Utah, suggesting that targeted interventions and support could help the school make progress. The unique challenges faced by Cherry Creek School, such as serving a more economically diverse population, present both opportunities and the potential for learning from the successes of its neighboring schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school district is open enrollment...CHOOSE A DIFFERENT SCHOOL. We have had nothing but problems with the teachers and beyond at this school. Our children are well-behaved, and fare very well academically. Teachers here just don't care, and there isn't enough done to ensure teachers are doing what they are supposed to be doing. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
