Summary:

Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle is a public virtual middle school located in West Jordan, Utah, serving grades 7-8 with a total enrollment of 120 students. It is part of the Jordan School District, which is ranked 49 out of 100 districts in Utah and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle has a higher percentage of Hispanic (25.83%) and Pacific Islander (4.17%) students compared to the surrounding schools, which tend to have a higher percentage of White students. However, the school consistently underperforms the Jordan District and Utah state averages in proficiency rates for 8th grade RISE tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle has a lower percentage of free/reduced lunch recipients (21.67%) compared to the nearby traditional public schools, which range from 8.49% to 39.33%. Despite its small class sizes, with a student-teacher ratio of 13.8, the school's performance lags behind the state and district averages.

In contrast, nearby traditional public schools like South Jordan Middle and Elk Ridge Middle rank in the top quarter and top 10% of Utah middle schools, respectively. The underperformance of Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle, despite its diverse student population and smaller class sizes, suggests that the virtual learning environment may not be effectively serving the needs of its students. Further investigation into the specific challenges and best practices of virtual middle schools could provide valuable insights to improve the educational outcomes for Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle and similar virtual learning environments.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We had a wonderful experience at Kelsey Peak Middle. My son attended for 2 years. Courses were easy, homework load light. My son still learned the basics in each course. I work at our local brick-and-mortar school where he would have attended if we hadn't gone online. Our favorite part of online school was the freedom to sleep in. Teachers were flexible at Kelsey Peak. Even though my child did not attend many of synchronous class meetings, he was able to watch the recorded classes and complete his work. We really like this school and would recommend it to families where parents help keep their children caught up with homework. (Our child would have fallen behind if we'd left everything to him.) We loved our experience at Kelsey Peak, and appreciate the teachers and staff who work there. =) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
