Odyssey Charter School

Summary:

Odyssey Charter School is a high-performing elementary school located in American Fork, Utah, serving 362 students in grades K-6. The school is part of the Odyssey Charter School District, which is ranked 23 out of 98 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Odyssey Charter School consistently outperforms the state average on RISE assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the school's 4th-grade students scored 62.7% proficient or better in ELA, compared to the state average of 44%. Additionally, Odyssey Charter School maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio of 16.8, which is lower than the ratios of most nearby Alpine District public schools. The school also has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 15.36% to 21.55% over the past three school years.

Compared to the nearby public schools in the Alpine District, Odyssey Charter School generally outperforms them on academic measures, such as RISE test scores. This suggests that the charter school model may be providing additional educational benefits for its students. While Odyssey Charter School is performing well overall, there may be opportunities to further improve its performance, particularly in areas where it is slightly below the state average, such as 3rd-grade ELA proficiency.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am both a parent and teacher at Odyssey Charter School. All four of my children have attended or are currently attending Odyssey. I am very pleased with the education they have received. The curriculum is well laid out and builds from one year to the next to give them a well rounded knowledge base. I love the Music and Latin programs because they are so well taught and enhance the education my children receive. Because I also work at the school, I see first hand how dedicated the teachers are to providing the best possible education and learning environment for my kids. They work long hours to make sure everything is just right. They also keep me informed about what is going on in the classroom, what is coming up so I can help my kids be prepared, and any individual concerns and accolades regarding my kids. My favorite thing about Odyssey is the positive atmosphere within the school. The current administration is so supportive and the staff really work together and collaborate to make things run smoothly. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
