Open Quote I attended SACS in San Antonio, Texas from Kindergarten through tenth grade. In first grade they took my pencil from my left hand and told me it was the hand of the devil. I had already started to learn how to write in cursive with my left hand but that didn't matter. When she asked the class what we wanted to be when we grew up we all raised our hands. She called on me and I enthusiastically said I wanted to be a Paleontologist to study the dinosaurs. She glared at me with a cold, hard look and said “We won’t be covering that.” and changed the subject.
I was heartbroken and confused. Sometime during the next two weeks she took the pencil out of my left hand and made me start writing with my right hand. I tried to tell her that I had been allowed to write with my left hand (how I was naturally inclined) but she was harsh and made me switch. She told me it was "wrong", and that it was the “hand of the devil”.
I was only five years old and completely terrified. I became paranoid, reclusive, and fell behind in all aspects of learning from that point on. My math skills suffered the most and I have struggled with mathematics my entire life…not to Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
