Fairview Elementary

Summary:

Fairview Elementary is a public elementary school located in Sherman, Texas, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Sherman Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 792 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Fairview Elementary has shown mixed academic performance compared to the state and district averages. While the school outperformed the district in reading proficiency for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, as well as in 5th-grade science proficiency, it underperformed the district in mathematics proficiency across all grade levels. The school has also seen significant disparities in the performance of different student subgroups, with African American and Hispanic students, as well as English Language Learners and students with special needs, consistently ranking in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools. In contrast, the school has performed better for White students and students of two or more races.

Despite having a relatively high per-student spending of $11,848 and a low student-teacher ratio of 10.5, Fairview Elementary has not been able to consistently translate these resources into strong academic outcomes. The school's performance is generally lower than that of nearby schools within the same district, such as Percy W. Neblett Elementary and Henry W. Sory Elementary, which have higher academic proficiency rates. The high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds at Fairview Elementary may be a significant factor contributing to the school's academic challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Fairview Elementary is an excellent school. The teachers and staff all help to create a warm and welcoming culture and environment for each student. They strive to meet the individual needs of all students by differentiating their instruction and small group interventions and support. I would not want my children to attend any other elementary school! Fairview Falcons SOAR! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
