Santa Anna Elementary

Summary:

Santa Anna Elementary is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in the Santa Anna Independent School District (ISD) in Santa Anna, Texas, with a student population of 155 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school has a predominantly White student body, with 63.23% White, 25.81% Hispanic, and 6.45% African American students.

Despite its small size, Santa Anna Elementary has consistently underperformed compared to state and regional standards. The school has ranked in the bottom half of Texas elementary schools for the past decade, maintaining a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger, which indicates below-average performance. This underperformance is seen across various student subgroups, including female students, male students, Hispanic students, White students, low socioeconomic status students, and at-risk students. The school's academic proficiency rates in STAAR Reading, Mathematics, and Science have also declined over the past few years, with most subject areas falling well below the state average. For example, in 2023-2024, only 43.75% of 3rd graders were proficient in Reading, compared to the state average of 48.85%.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Northwest Elementary in Brownwood ISD, J.B. Stephens Elementary in Bangs ISD, and Coleman Elementary in Coleman ISD, Santa Anna Elementary generally performs worse across various academic metrics and statewide rankings. This suggests that the school may be facing significant challenges, such as limited resources, socioeconomic disadvantages, and potential staffing or instructional issues, which could be contributing to its underperformance. However, the data also indicates that there is room for improvement, and targeted interventions and support could potentially help the school make progress.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school is unsatisfactory. The principle is not willing to do what is needed when a teacher bullies a student. Also tells other children to bully a student. If you are military they will accept you at first and then they are willing to make your child like an outsider. The school system is willing to put a child in ISS (in school suspension) without the parents knowledge. Just imagine what other things they do without the parents knowledge. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
