Brentfield Elementary

Summary:

Brentfield Elementary is a public elementary school in Dallas, Texas, serving 771 students in grades PK-6. As part of the Richardson Independent School District (ISD), Brentfield consistently ranks among the top 40 elementary schools in Texas, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Brentfield's academic performance is exceptional, with students significantly outperforming district and state averages on STAAR tests across all grade levels and subjects. In reading, 86-93% of Brentfield students are proficient, compared to 50-59% for the district and state. In math, 79-91% of Brentfield students are proficient, compared to 45-52% for the district and 37-48% for the state. The school's 5th-grade science proficiency rate of 71.68% is also significantly higher than the district's 34.06% and the state's 26.29%. Brentfield's low student-teacher ratio and increasing per-student spending suggest a focus on providing quality resources for its students.

While Brentfield's student population is relatively homogeneous, with 76-77% White students, the school has demonstrated strong performance across different student subgroups. However, the school's low percentage of economically disadvantaged students, at only 5.64-12.1%, raises questions about its ability to effectively serve a more diverse population. Nearby schools, such as Spring Creek Elementary and Mohawk Elementary, within the Richardson ISD do not perform as well, but some schools in other districts, like Haggar Elementary in Plano ISD and Harmony Science Academy in Harmony Public Schools - North Texas, also demonstrate strong academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Miserable experience! The kids are incredibly cliquish and mean. The environment is toxic and teachers, counselors and administrators do absolutely nothing about it. They are worthless! The good reviews are from selfish parents that wear blinders. As long as their kids are happy and have friends they don't care if there are other kids that suffer and I suffered! I witnessed other kids bullied so severely that they were sent to mental health clinic day schools for weeks at a time. In math class one day, I was sitting in the back row with a few others girls in the same row. A boy came behind the row and punched each girl in the head. I don't know if he punched me because I blocked the memory. I have PTSD. Why let kids do this to each other? Close Quote

Open Quote You will not find better quality in any other public schools. It is like a private school education with the cost of a public school education. I am an elementary school teacher myself in another district. I did my homework before buying a house, and this is by far the best I found. We've had nothing but wonderful experiences with Brentfield. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
