Summary:

Mendenhall Elementary is a public elementary school in Plano, Texas, serving 607 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Plano Independent School District, which is ranked 185 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating.

Mendenhall Elementary faces significant challenges in terms of academic performance, with consistently low rankings compared to other Texas elementary schools. The school's STAAR test scores are significantly below the district and state averages, particularly for Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Special Education student groups. Additionally, Mendenhall has a very high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 76.68% to 85.03% over the past three school years, indicating a high concentration of students from low-income families.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son who is 8 year's old on the autism spectrum attended Mendenhall. I had to withdraw him in December 2022.

Majority of the teachers here are unprofessional and seem to be unhappy 😒 teaching. They look overwhelmed. The principal is not at all professional she plays as if so..but express your concerns to her and she will not acknowledge it, it makes her upset and starts to talk over your worries and concerns about your child well-being.

I believe the principal is the main problem the reason why teachers are not performing like they should.

I advice you not to enroll your special needs children at Mendenhall Elementary. At least not until current situation changes but for that to happen a new principal must come in.

Front desk secretaries are so unprofessional. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
