Pampa High School

Summary:

Pampa High School is a public high school in Pampa, Texas, serving 1,046 students in grades 9-12. The school has a diverse student population, with a majority Hispanic (49%) and White (45%) students, along with smaller percentages of other racial groups. However, Pampa High School has consistently struggled academically, ranking in the bottom half of Texas high schools and maintaining a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade.

One of the key issues at Pampa High School is the significant performance gaps between different student subgroups. The school ranks particularly low for Hispanic, White, and multi-racial students, as well as English Language Learners, low-socioeconomic status students, and gifted and talented students. The only subgroup that performs relatively better is special education students. Additionally, Pampa High School's four-year graduation rate has fluctuated between 88.7% and 93.1% over the past 5 years, slightly below the state average, and its dropout rate has increased in recent years, reaching 2.7% in 2021-2022.

In contrast, White Deer High School, a much smaller school located about 14 miles from Pampa High School, significantly outperforms Pampa High School across various metrics. White Deer High School ranks in the top 20% of Texas high schools, has a 100% graduation rate, and consistently outperforms the state and district averages on STAAR exams. This comparison highlights the need for Pampa High School to address its equity concerns and provide more targeted support and resources for its underperforming student groups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
