Iduma Elementary

Summary:

Iduma Elementary is a public elementary school in Killeen, Texas, serving 852 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Killeen Independent School District, which is ranked 596 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Iduma Elementary faces significant academic challenges, with consistently lower STAAR test scores compared to the district and state averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's 3rd-grade reading proficiency was 40.17%, compared to 47% for the district and 48.85% for the state. The school's performance is particularly weak in mathematics, with 3rd-grade math proficiency at 32.48% in 2023-2024, compared to 41.01% for the district and 40.86% for the state. While the school's African American and Hispanic students perform better than the overall school, the performance of other subgroups, such as White students, English Language Learners, and students with special needs, is significantly lower.

Iduma Elementary's academic challenges are further highlighted when compared to nearby schools within the Killeen Independent School District. Schools like Venable Village Elementary, Haynes Elementary, and Montague Village Elementary have higher STAAR test scores and better overall rankings compared to Iduma Elementary. Despite the school's relatively high spending per student of $9,777 in the 2020-2021 school year, and a low student-teacher ratio of 16.1 in the 2022-2023 school year, the academic performance remains a significant concern, suggesting that factors beyond just funding and staffing may be contributing to the school's challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teacher refuse to inform you of you child's behavior Instead the principal will call you up to suspend your kid with out any paper work when to return and laugh while your child's crying and she will inform you in front of her staff as to show off power, I was not going to say anything but I feel parents should be warned lack of communication and the communication skills are terrible and everything will be dramatized. My son started pre K was only there two days and no calls and I asked teacher to call me if any problems and she said can't have to let principle know, I knew nothing till they suspend him on second day, then to find out he was pushed off a swing bar and he hit back, she, the little girl, did not get in any trouble and he was labeled in school system as a person who assults. He is in speech therapy and kids tend to pick and the teacher has to many students and principles complains if the overcrowded and behavior problems in my son's class on second day. I'm a military widow and I expected support but instead walked out the office that day crying. I have took him out. The school gets at at 1 o'clock on Thursdays to suit their staff. Close Quote

Open Quote Find a different school. They have a very large failure rate and teachers don't understand the IB program. This puts the burden on the student and the parents.

I relocated to the Killeen area as a contractor on post. I read the reviews and expected typical greatness from a Texas school, especially with a IB program in place. After being there a year and contacting the principle several times and dealing with the teacher we determined that the school is over crowded and they are not willing to deal with the root issues causing student problems. Living near the school we have several friends with kids going to the school and all have had the same issues. Straight "A" kids barely passing, not being notified of deficiencies until right before a report card comes out. No complaints from the teacher about our child every day we pick up our kid. What are these people thinking???

On a different note, you must pay to background check yourself if you want to chaperone, you must pay your own way for field trips and when our child went to the Zoo no parents wanted to chaperone so a teacher had to tag along and 12 students were with each teacher. One student was lost and so they found him and left the zoo early.

Talk about a cluster. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
