Jarrell Elementary

Summary:

Jarrell Elementary is a public elementary school serving 785 students in grades PK-5 in the Jarrell Independent School District in Jarrell, Texas. The school's student population is diverse, with 34.9% White, 9.55% African American, 49.17% Hispanic, 2.04% Asian, 0.25% Native American, and 4.08% two or more races.

Despite serving a large and diverse student body, Jarrell Elementary has consistently underperformed academically compared to the state and its own district. The school's proficiency rates on STAAR tests are significantly lower than state and district averages, and it ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. Jarrell Elementary struggles to support the academic achievement of several student subgroups, particularly African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students. Additionally, the school has a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, at 61.53%, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

Comparing Jarrell Elementary to nearby high-performing schools, such as Thomas Arnold Elementary and Jo Ann Ford Elementary, highlights the disparities in educational opportunities and outcomes within the region. These nearby schools consistently outperform Jarrell Elementary on academic measures and serve student populations with lower levels of economic disadvantage. Jarrell Elementary's stagnant performance over the years suggests a need for comprehensive interventions and support to address the unique challenges faced by the school and its diverse student body.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I can only speak for my experience with the third grade teachers. I would not recommend the third grade here unless you like no parent communication, never knowing when tests are or what is being studied in class. After I complained about the lack of communication, the teachers began emailing me their lesson plans for the week. I also spoke with the principal who said parents have not complained about communication so there was no need to change anything. So if parents are okay with no communication he doesn't feel the need to create some form of communication about what is happening in the classroom. I have heard good things about other teachers there, so maybe this is just this one set of teachers. However, at the elementary level you would think there would be some type of parent newsletter, online teacher blog or some form of communication to let parents know how to help their children at home. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
