Townley Elementary

Summary:

Townley Elementary is a public elementary school in Irving, Texas, serving 648 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Irving Independent School District, which is ranked 822 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Townley Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with significantly below-average performance on STAAR tests across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 34.38% of 3rd graders, 39.18% of 4th graders, and 40% of 5th graders were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to the state averages of 48.85%, 50.66%, and 53.96%, respectively. The school also struggles to support the academic achievement of its diverse student population, with most subgroups performing well below state and district averages. Additionally, 86.88% of Townley Elementary students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages.

However, the nearby John W. and Margie Stipes Elementary, Schulze Elementary, and Gilbert F.M. Elementary schools in the Irving Independent School District generally perform better than Townley Elementary on academic measures, despite also serving high-poverty student populations. This suggests that with targeted interventions and a focus on supporting the unique needs of the student population, Townley Elementary may be able to make progress in improving academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have observed on several occasions how children are treated nice when parents are in the school but when we are absent its another story. My granddaughter has told me that a substitute teacher called her dumb, that lowers a child self esteem but this is who we leave our children in their hands.I want the best education possible for my grandchildren we entrust you with them, how can you as Educators not want the same, they are all God's Children do away with The Teacher's Pet Theme and "TEACH OUR CHILDREN". About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
