Kingwood Middle

Summary:

Kingwood Middle is a public middle school serving 1,002 students in grades 6-8 in the Humble Independent School District (ISD) in Kingwood, Texas. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup that is predominantly White (46.51%), Hispanic (36.83%), and African American (10.08%), and a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (36.33% to 48.3%).

Kingwood Middle generally outperforms the Humble ISD and Texas state averages in STAAR test scores, with higher proficiency rates in subjects like Reading and Algebra I. However, the school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with White, Asian, and multi-racial students performing better than African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students. Compared to nearby schools within the Humble ISD, Kingwood Middle's academic performance is stronger than Timberwood Middle and Humble Middle, but lower than Riverwood Middle and Creekwood Middle.

Kingwood Middle has maintained very low dropout rates, ranging from 0.0% to 0.1% over the past several years, which is significantly lower than the state average. However, the school's performance has declined slightly over the past few years, as evidenced by its drop in SchoolDigger rankings from 492 in 2018-2019 to 1038 in 2023-2024. This trend warrants further investigation to understand the underlying factors and potential areas for improvement, particularly in addressing the needs of the school's diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I had two daughters attend this school and couldn't have been more pleased. If there was a problem, the administrators were there to listen and act immediately. I knew them all by name and they knew me, as well as all of the other parents. I ate with the kids at school, and they were the greatest bunch of kids. They were taught positive things by the school and administrators and everything was common sense. For example, if a child wore pants with a hole in them at another school, they would be sent home, missing class time. Here, they are sent to the office, duct tape is applied, and they go back to class. Problem solved! The kids are allowed to be individuals and express themselves. The staff is wonderful and supportive. I loved this school. Best experience ever. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
