Bradfield Elementary

Summary:

Bradfield Elementary is a highly-acclaimed public elementary school in Dallas, Texas, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 4th grade as part of the Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD), which is ranked 2nd out of 968 districts in the state. Bradfield Elementary has consistently been one of the top-performing elementary schools in Texas, ranking within the top 1% of all Texas elementary schools for the past several years.

Bradfield Elementary's exceptional academic performance is evident across various metrics. In the 2023-2024 school year, 96.77% of 3rd-grade students and 95.1% of 4th-grade students were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, significantly outpacing the district and state averages. The school also excels in the performance of specific student subgroups, ranking 21st out of 4,585 Texas elementary schools for male students and 2nd out of 1,015 for Asian students. Additionally, Bradfield Elementary has an extremely low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high socioeconomic status of the student population.

While Bradfield Elementary outperforms its nearby peers, the other HPISD schools, such as Hyer Elementary, Armstrong Elementary, and University Park Elementary, also demonstrate strong academic performance, with all three schools ranking within the top 5% of Texas elementary schools. This highlights the overall excellence of the HPISD district, while also raising questions about the role of socioeconomic factors in educational outcomes and the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion in education.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote As a parent of 2nd grader at Bradfield, I think the school is wonderful. The teachers are the best around and the school has above average components for special needs children. I have read many parents posts on similar sites complaining about the stuffiness of the women who drop their children off in fancy cars and wearing fancy clothes, etc., and all I can say is who cares? The curriculum is great, teachers are attentive and they care very much about the students. The simple fact this school is in an affluent area dictates much of the flavor, however, does anyone really care. I take my child to school every day, and sometimes laugh at the plastic nature of the mothers who consort about the campus but in the end, my child is getting a great education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
