John T White Elementary

Summary:

John T White Elementary is a public charter elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 448 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has a predominantly African American student population (70.98%) and a significant Hispanic student population (23.21%).

Despite the school's small class sizes and relatively high spending per student, John T White Elementary consistently ranks among the lowest-performing elementary schools in Texas, with academic performance significantly below state and district averages. The school's high poverty rates, with 94.87% to 95.32% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, likely contribute to these challenges. Compared to nearby schools like East Handley Elementary, Bill J Elliott Elementary, and Lowery Road, John T White's academic performance is significantly lower, with no signs of improvement over the past decade.

The data suggests that John T White Elementary faces significant challenges in addressing the needs of its highly disadvantaged student population, which is predominantly African American and Hispanic and comes from low-income backgrounds. Addressing these issues will likely require a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach that goes beyond just increasing spending or reducing class sizes. As a parent, it's important to be aware of the school's performance and the challenges it faces in order to advocate for the best possible education for your child.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The administration and teachers do not communicate with parents at all. An example is when my son's bus broke down to pick up the kids from school, they called for a replacement bus to get the kids which arrived an hour later and they never called the parents to let us know what was going on. Teacher ignores issues in the class about bullying and gave conflicting instructions to me and my wife about homework assignments. It feels like we are fighting against the school rather than working with them to help our son succeed academically. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
