Bruce Shulkey Elementary

Summary:

Bruce Shulkey Elementary is a public elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 399 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, which is ranked 783 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Bruce Shulkey Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with a ranking between 3,798 and 4,548 out of around 4,600 schools over the past 10 years. The school's performance on STAAR tests is significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subjects, with only 23.08% of 3rd graders proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 32.84% for the district and 48.85% for the state. Certain student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students, perform particularly poorly, ranking in the bottom 10-15% of their respective subgroups statewide. The school has a very high percentage of students (over 80%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

The nearby schools, such as South Hills Elementary, Westcliff Elementary, and Oakmont Elementary, generally perform better academically than Bruce Shulkey Elementary, with higher STAAR proficiency rates and higher statewide rankings. These schools have a more economically advantaged student population, with lower percentages of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The data suggests that Bruce Shulkey Elementary could benefit from targeted interventions and additional resources to address the needs of its economically disadvantaged and minority student populations.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Helpful and friendly staff and teachers. Lots of activities for the students (at all ages). My kids absolutely love this school. They know the name of every adult that works in that building. Every time that I need to visit the school I am kindly greeted by smiling happy teachers, and their smiling happy children. This is truly the most welcoming friendly school I have ever walked into. My children love learning at this school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
