Manuel Jara Elementary

Summary:

Manuel Jara Elementary is a public elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 580 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, which is ranked 783 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite increased per-student spending, Manuel Jara Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with significantly below-average performance on STAAR assessments across all grade levels and subject areas. The school struggles to support the academic achievement of various student subgroups, particularly students in special education, who rank in the bottom 1% of Texas elementary schools. With over 92% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, the school serves a predominantly economically disadvantaged population, which may contribute to its challenges.

Interestingly, nearby schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District, such as Dolores Huerta Elementary, Rufino Mendoza Senior Elementary, and Sam Rosen Elementary, also struggle with low academic performance and serve predominantly Hispanic student populations with high rates of economic disadvantage. However, some schools, like Washington Heights Elementary, perform significantly better on STAAR assessments, suggesting that there may be opportunities for improvement within the district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote When I went to this school back in 1996-1998 the teachers they had were very into their jobs, they really did care about each and every one of us. If I still lived in Fort Worth my daughter would be enrolled their but I live in Denton now. My two favorite teachers were Mr.Caram my 4th grade teacher and Ms.Huff my 5th grade teacher. Also my p.e. coach Mr. Sandoval he had lots of fun activities. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
