Mesita Elementary

Summary:

Mesita Elementary is a public elementary school in El Paso, Texas, serving around 940 students in grades PK-5. As part of the El Paso Independent School District, Mesita consistently outperforms the district and state in academic achievement, with strong STAAR test scores across multiple grade levels and subjects.

Mesita's student population is predominantly Hispanic (85.96%), with a higher percentage of Asian students (2.55%) and a lower percentage of White students (9.26%) compared to the district and state averages. Despite the school's high percentage of students (69.26%) qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a significant population from low-income families, Mesita has maintained a strong 4-star rating from SchoolDigger and consistently ranks in the top 25-30% of Texas elementary schools. This academic excellence is particularly notable when compared to nearby schools, such as Douglass Elementary and Aoy Elementary, which do not perform as well on STAAR assessments.

Mesita Elementary's consistent academic performance, as evidenced by its STAAR test scores, is a standout feature. The school's students consistently outperform their peers at the El Paso Independent School District and state levels, indicating a strong educational program and effective teaching practices. Additionally, the school's diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic and Asian students, likely contributes to the unique learning environment and cultural richness of the school. While the school faces socioeconomic challenges, its strong academic performance suggests effective strategies to support these students, making Mesita Elementary a model for other schools in the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school has a policy that parents are not allow to be with your children during lunch or bring them lunch. To me this is a red flag which means the school has something to hide. Since then I have found a more ( a lot more) parent friendly school. My little one is only happier and is adjusting to new way of life. He is only in kinder. I would not recommend this school unless you don't care what happens to your children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
