Jack C Binion Elementary

Summary:

Jack C Binion Elementary is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Richland Hills, Texas, which is part of the Birdville Independent School District. The school has a diverse student population, with over 80% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage.

Despite serving a similar student population, Jack C Binion Elementary consistently underperforms compared to nearby schools within the Birdville ISD, such as Birdville Elementary and Academy at Carrie F. Thomas. The school's academic performance on STAAR tests is significantly below the district and state averages, with only 37.36% of 3rd graders proficient in reading, compared to 47% for the district and 48.85% for the state. The school's performance is particularly low for Hispanic, African American, and English Language Learner student groups.

Interestingly, schools in the neighboring Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District, such as River Trails Elementary and Donna Park, significantly outperform Jack C Binion Elementary on STAAR tests and have higher rankings. The school's performance has also declined over the past 10 years, with its statewide ranking dropping from the top 50% to the bottom 25% of Texas elementary schools. The high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, lower spending per student, and relatively high student-teacher ratio may be contributing to these academic challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Only gave 1 star because I could not choose 0. We have had a nightmarish experience since the new administration team has taken over. From rude comments, condescending behavior and bullying children. Had to file a police report on the assistant principal, instead of removing her from the school with our children the solution is to move us somewhere else instead. I really truly miss Mr Barltett and his staff, they were truly amazing and easy to work with. I get ignored by Dr Waddell for over 2 months in regards to the other assistant and my concerns with her continued behavior. If this is the way they are going to do things then us parents need to get together and do something about it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
