Ambassadors Preparatory Academy

Summary:

Ambassadors Preparatory Academy is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Galveston, Texas, with a student population of 170. The school is part of the Texas City Independent School District, which is ranked 226 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

Ambassadors Preparatory Academy has shown mixed performance on STAAR assessments compared to the state average, with some grade levels and subjects outperforming the state, while others struggle. The school's 3rd grade reading proficiency (28.57%) was significantly lower than the state average (48.85%), but its 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade reading proficiencies were higher. In mathematics, the school's performance was also mixed, with 3rd and 6th grade proficiency rates below the state average, but 7th and 8th grade rates exceeding the state. The school's performance on science and social studies assessments was particularly low, with 5th grade science proficiency at just 4% compared to the state's 26.29%. Notably, the school has maintained a 0% dropout rate for the past several years.

Compared to nearby schools, such as Morgan Elementary Magnet School and Parker Elementary, both in the Galveston Independent School District, Ambassadors Preparatory Academy's performance is generally lower. However, the school's Hispanic student subgroup performed better than the district averages in some cases, suggesting the school may be providing effective support for this population. Additionally, the school has a very high percentage of students (over 88%) eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population, which may be a contributing factor to the school's overall academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school plagued with non-perform oriented teacher(s). Especially, the teacher(s) are very biased and favoring to their children. These teachers do not teach at all and only give homework to comply with minimum guidelines. The worst thing is, these teacher(s) make schemes to fail students and brand the students "F" grade. These teachers are capable of branding students with "F" (F grade) even who got above 90 percentile in STAAR test. These teachers ruin the confidence and enthusiasm of students. Extremely discouraging and neglecting professional attitude.
These teachers are very good at making their children get all "A+" grades and crush competition against their children. Simple example is, how the teacher have their children in the same class they teach. Is this not 'conflict of interest.
The science fare program, these teachers encourage junk projects (no science at all) rather than value and recognize true scientific project. These teachers mock and humiliate student(s) just by blatantly ignoring performance of student. Extremely self-serving and unethical teachers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
