Amarillo Collegiate Academy

Summary:

Amarillo Collegiate Academy is a public charter school serving grades K-12 in Amarillo, Texas, part of the Wildorado Independent School District (Isd). The school has seen a gradual shift in its racial demographics, with a decreasing percentage of white students and an increasing percentage of Hispanic students.

Amarillo Collegiate Academy stands out for its consistently high academic performance. The school has maintained graduation rates ranging from 89.5% to 100% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state and district averages. Additionally, the school has very low dropout rates, outperforms the state and district in STAAR test scores, particularly in reading and end-of-course exams, and has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Interestingly, the school's spending per student is lower than the state average, suggesting it is effectively allocating its resources to support student success.

Compared to the nearby Wildorado School, Amarillo Collegiate Academy has higher graduation rates, lower dropout rates, and generally stronger academic performance across most STAAR test subjects. This highlights the school's ability to provide a high-quality education to its diverse student population and serve as a valuable asset to the Amarillo community.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My children have been attending this school since 2006. Prior to coming to this school, my children were constantly reprimanded for distracting the class. This made them feel like "bad kids", like they were nuisances. The problem really resided in the lack of ability in the trachers to educate my children at their pace. Instead, my children, who are all extremely advanced were expected to "sit still" and remain quiet, while the teachers conveyed concepts 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, that my children had mastered before entering into the Public School system. We had looked into private schools, but found them too expensive and unaffordable. Within days of enrolling my children at Vista Academy, their excitement about school and overall outlook toward education changed to that of something positive. They, for the first time in years, woke up happily anticipating going to class. They have since maintained this passion for learning and have picked up life skills never taught in public schools, like character traits such as, accountability, tolerence and the use of value based discretion. I recommend this school, its staff, and style of educating the individual, not the class room, to EVERY PARENT I MEET! I couldn't ask for more in a school. Where I used to spend my days concerned whether I'd be meeting the principle the next day, I now spend my days fully confident my children are receiving the BEST education available in Amarillo that doesn't come with a large fee for attendance. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
