Warren County Middle School

Summary:

Warren County Middle School is a public middle school in Mc Minnville, Tennessee, serving 784 students in grades 6-8 and part of the Warren County School District, which is ranked 119 out of 139 districts in the state.

While the school has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with higher percentages of Hispanic and multiracial students, it consistently underperforms the state and county averages in standardized test scores across all subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates in Mathematics (18.9%), English Language Arts (25.7%), and Science (34%) were significantly lower than the state averages of 39.7%, 37.6%, and 44%, respectively. The school's rankings among Tennessee middle schools for specific student subgroups, such as female, male, Hispanic, White, and students with special needs, are also concerning, with the school ranking in the bottom half of the state for these groups.

Despite spending more per student ($10,158 in 2020-2021) compared to the nearby Cannon County Middle School ($8,408 in 2020-2021) and the state average, Warren County Middle School's academic outcomes do not reflect the additional resources. The school's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from 240 out of 362 Tennessee middle schools in 2016-2017 to 400 out of 580 in 2023-2024, suggesting that the school is struggling to keep up with the academic progress of other middle schools in the state.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Most teachers genuinely care, however, this is one of the schools across Warren County where if an educator speak out on an issue they can expect to be not be invited back next year or be froze out. This creates a climate where teachers can often be borderline cruel to students and get away with it. It also means many students fall through the cracks because teachers have to chose to stand up for their students or pay their bills. The principal received a promotion after throwing a helmet and causing a football player to be hospitalized and receive stitches. There have been multiple complaints against the Dean of discipline using heavy handed or downright physically aggressive tactics. The school board director won't take charge and the rest of the mostly female school board staff seems intimidated by these people. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
