R T Fisher Alternative

Summary:

R T Fisher Alternative is a small public alternative school serving grades K-12 in Gallatin, Tennessee, with a diverse student population of 122 students. While the school's low student-teacher ratio suggests a more personalized learning environment, it significantly underperforms compared to the Sumner County district and the state of Tennessee in academic subjects like Mathematics and English Language Arts.

Only 9.8% of R T Fisher Alternative students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 58% for Sumner County and 39.7% for Tennessee. Similarly, just 14.8% of students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 48.1% for Sumner County and 37.6% for Tennessee. This consistent underperformance is even more pronounced when compared to nearby schools like Merrol Hyde Magnet School, a public magnet school in the same district that consistently outperforms R T Fisher Alternative and the district/state averages.

The lack of data on free and reduced-price lunch rates at R T Fisher Alternative makes it difficult to fully understand the socioeconomic factors that may be contributing to the school's academic challenges. Additionally, the school's status as an alternative school may indicate that it serves a population of students with unique educational needs or circumstances that require specialized support. Further investigation into the school's specific student population, resources, and support systems could provide valuable insights to address these performance gaps.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote 'like a juvinial jail, but you get to go home in the evenings'

school is falling apart, the staff acts like they are only there for a check, and it is filled with asbestos. no kidding, there is a door that says 'WARNING ASBESTOS do not enter with out proper gear' right next to the cafeteria that some students go in daily to get cleaning supplies (the kids that go here can be young as 6).the school its self is more than 50 years old and nothing new has been done to fix up things. celing tiles are falling and floor tires at coming up. if you child has to come here, it would be better to just send them to a futher away school Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
