Isaiah T. Creswell Middle School of the Arts

Summary:

Isaiah T. Creswell Middle School of the Arts is a public middle school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 276 students in grades 5-8 with a predominantly African American student population of 80.43%.

The school has consistently struggled academically, ranking in the bottom quartile of Tennessee middle schools. Its performance on TNReady assessments is significantly below state and district averages across all subject areas and grade levels. Notably, white students at the school perform much better than their African American and Hispanic peers, highlighting persistent racial achievement gaps. The school's high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds likely contributes to these academic challenges.

When compared to nearby schools like Meigs Middle and Head Middle, which serve more diverse student populations, Isaiah T. Addressing these issues will require a comprehensive, data-driven approach that considers the unique needs and circumstances of the school's student population, with targeted interventions and community engagement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Isaiah T. Creswell Middle Magnet School of the Visual and Performing Arts is on the cusp of greatness. Their vibrant community features students actively engaged in their classes, parent tours for prospective families, and a bustling library where students dive into research and reading to boost their literacy skills. Teachers engage in collaborative planning to stay at the forefront of instructional practices, while students participate in a variety of rehearsals for dance, choir, drama, and band—including their renowned drumline.

They also offer an extended day program with a variety of after-school clubs. Students can explore interests in ukulele, beats, cheerleading, theatre, Legos, drones, and robotics. Additionally, they provide opportunities for boys and girls to join basketball and soccer teams. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has helped my child greatly in her art and her learning she has improved in a enormous way. She has even learned poetry going on a step team and studying and going at her goals in life. She has been inspired and taught by her teachers because its not just the students who have talents the some of teachers do to and i think sharing the same goal is the best learning experience a teacher and a student could have. People should send there kids to this school not only for a great education but if they have a talent or computer skills they will strive. Close Quote

Open Quote Worst school ever!!! My daughter has been bullied and teased and picked on since the second week of school. I have written emails to the Principal who told me that they would keep an eye on things and things are not getting any better. If and when something happens to her at school the teachers have her call me. What exactly am I going to do if something is happening at school it should be handled at school!!! I just found out a week ago that the bullying is now spilling out of school and onto the Metro bus she rides and she is being pushed around on and off the bus. I talked to her teachers and guidance counselor and they are making everything out to be my daughters fault. I think they are causing more problems than she is and they are treating her just as badly as the other students. There is little to no respect from the teachers and absolutely no respect for the parents who are trying to make sure their children have a safe and happy school. I now have to deal with my daughter crying in the morning because she doesn't want to go to school and a principal who will do nothing to get her out of that school and into one that she will feel more safe and comfortable in. I will never allow my children to go to that school again and if I have friends or family that want their children to go there I would let them know about all the issues that we have had within the first semester of the school year! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
