Margaret Allen Middle

Summary:

Margaret Allen Middle is a public middle school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 265 students in grades 6-8. The school has a diverse student population, with a majority of Hispanic (53.58%) and African American (32.45%) students.

Despite its diverse student body, Margaret Allen Middle has consistently underperformed compared to state and county averages. The school ranks in the bottom half of Tennessee middle schools, with proficiency rates well below state averages in core subjects like math (6.2%), English language arts (11.3%), science (14.8%), and social studies (15.4%). This poor academic performance is particularly concerning for the school's Hispanic and African American students, who rank in the bottom quarter of Tennessee middle schools. The school also struggles to meet the needs of students from low-income backgrounds, ranking in the bottom quarter of the state for this subgroup.

When compared to nearby schools in the Davidson County district, Margaret Allen Middle consistently underperforms. Schools like Donelson Middle, Croft Middle, and Two Rivers Middle all have significantly higher proficiency rates than Margaret Allen Middle, and nearby charter schools like KIPP Academy Nashville and STEM Prep Academy also outperform the school. These comparisons suggest that Margaret Allen Middle may need to reevaluate its instructional strategies and support systems to better serve its diverse student population and improve academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Former Student who attended this school. Would never take my future kids, suggest anyone else's kids, or even wish this on my worst enemy's children. Teachers and principals did nothing to help bullying. In fact, they had posed as a Magnet school when recruiting me via mail in the fourth grade, only for me to find out they were a failing public school halfway through the year after inquiring about why there were so many fights at a Magnet school. Education is subpar, teachers do not try, and there is no hope of succeeding lest you get recruited by a charter school like I did. Please stick to Nashville Prep, Liberty Collegiate, Nashville Academy of Computer Science, and RePublic High School. These schools did wonders for me and my sibling and cousins and might do wonders for your child as well. Trust me, dodge a bullet, this is a parent's worst nightmare. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
