Northeast Middle

Summary:

Northeast Middle is a public middle school located in Clarksville, Tennessee, serving grades 6-8 with a student population of 1,026. The school is part of the Montgomery County school district, which is ranked 55 out of 139 districts in Tennessee and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Northeast Middle has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of African American (33.33%) and Hispanic (16.37%) students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by TNReady test scores, is generally lower than the Montgomery County and Tennessee state averages across all subjects and grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates in Mathematics (26.7%) and English Language Arts (27.5%) were significantly below the county (37.9% and 39.4%) and state (39.7% and 37.6%) averages. Additionally, Northeast Middle's statewide ranking and SchoolDigger rating have declined over the years, from a high of 91st out of 563 Tennessee middle schools and a 4-star rating in 2017-2018 to a current ranking of 301st out of 580 schools and a 2-star rating in 2023-2024.

Compared to the nearby middle schools, such as Rossview Middle, Kirkwood Middle, and Montgomery Central Middle, Northeast Middle generally underperforms, with lower test scores and rankings. However, the school stands out for its exceptional performance in Algebra I, with proficiency rates of over 80% in 2021-2022, significantly higher than the county (14.3%) and state (20.7%) averages. The school's performance appears to be influenced by socioeconomic factors, as its ranking for students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds is lower than its overall ranking.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school, the teachers are nice, and the hallways are clean from any trash. One thing I might add is that fights rarely happen at this school. People are well behaved and everyone is happy! It's a overall great school! GO NEMS!! Close Quote

Open Quote In the 6 months my child has gone here we have experienced bullying by a teacher and threats to my child from a guidance counselor. The guidance counselor has been unwilling to provide my child with ADD the opportunities needed for academic success and has now introduced fear and intimidation to the equasion by threatening my child if I challenge her further on the shortcomings we are experiencing. I have and continue to experience deception and dishonesty from this counselor and have experienced an attitude of apathy and disinterest from the administration with all of these problems. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
