Ringgold Elementary

Summary:

Ringgold Elementary is a public elementary school in Clarksville, Tennessee, serving 801 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Montgomery County school district, which is ranked 55 out of 139 districts in the state.

Ringgold Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of African American (36.95%) and Hispanic (24.34%) students, and a lower percentage of White students (24.34%). However, the school's academic performance, as measured by TNReady test scores, is generally lower than the Montgomery County and Tennessee state averages across all grades and subjects, particularly in Mathematics, where it ranks in the bottom half of Tennessee elementary schools. The school's statewide ranking has also declined over the years, dropping from 347 out of 646 Tennessee elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 758 out of 1008 in the current 2023-2024 school year, with its rating decreasing from 3 stars to 1 star.

Ringgold Elementary's performance is particularly low for White and male students, ranking in the bottom half of Tennessee elementary schools for these subgroups, while it performs relatively better for African American and Hispanic students, ranking in the top half of the state. This suggests the need to investigate the underlying factors contributing to these performance disparities and implement targeted interventions to ensure equitable outcomes for all student subgroups. The school's declining academic performance and statewide ranking indicate the need for a comprehensive review of its instructional practices, curriculum, and support systems to identify areas for improvement and implement effective strategies to enhance student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My child has bee isolated in the back of the classroom facing the WALL since the start of this year. The teachers refuse to put him with the rest of the class because they say he is distracting to other students (he is a 10 yr old boy). I have asked he be placed in the front room of the class, they refuse. Had a parent/teacher/councelor meeting where I was told I would receive regular emails regarding how his day went, etc. As of almost 3 months later, I've yet to receive a single one. He is in RTI, my son brought home a letter stating he was making progress and RTI was to be discontinued, a week later, I get a letter in the mail informing me of his possible retention because his grades and skills have not improved! I'm not alleging my son is an angel but he's clearly struggling and the teachers do not know how to deal, their solution is to just NOT deal with him. As a result of his isolation, he is having anxiety and depression. He has no motivation and doesn't even feel like a person because he's not being treated as such. Since he's attended this school (2nd year) I have noticed a marked decline in his overall self-esteem. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
