Pioneer Virtual Academy

Summary:

Pioneer Virtual Academy is a small public virtual school in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, serving grades K-12 with a student population of 158 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school is part of the Lawrence County School District, which is ranked 62nd out of 139 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Analysis of Pioneer Virtual Academy reveals that the school consistently underperforms the Lawrence County and Tennessee state averages in proficiency rates for TNReady assessments across all grade levels and subject areas, particularly in Mathematics and English Language Arts. For example, the school's proficiency rate in Mathematics for all grades is 18.7%, compared to 41.7% for Lawrence County and 39.7% for the state. The school's student-teacher ratio has fluctuated in recent years, ranging from 7.9 to 11.8, which is significantly lower than the typical public school ratio.

Additionally, the school's spending per student has varied, ranging from $2,344 to $3,034, which is lower than the state average. While the school's racial composition has become less diverse over the past three years, with the percentage of White students increasing, this trend may not be representative of the overall diversity in the Lawrence County School District. The inconsistent academic performance across different subject areas and grade levels suggests that the school may need to implement targeted interventions and support to address the specific learning needs of its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school accepted my son withdrew him from the school he was in email stating we would have a meeting to go over his IEP and to choose courses not to worry his attendance is being accounted for, to email me again yesterday after never having a meeting and my son already being withdrawn for two weeks now to say we can't accept him as a student! Our school doesn't steal kids from other district is Patty Frank's the principal of Harmony's exact words! But other students attend her virtual school from the school we previously attended. I have now enrolled my son elsewhere and I am awaiting acceptance. My son was denied a education due to his IEP not because we came from a district if that was the case then they wouldn't have accepted any other students from other districts. Unfortunately I can't leave a zero star review! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
