Despite having a relatively high per-student spending of $11,209 and a lower-than-average student-teacher ratio of 13.2, Red Bank Middle School consistently underperforms compared to the Hamilton County and Tennessee averages across all subject areas and grade levels. Similarly, in English Language Arts, only 22.3% of Red Bank students were proficient or better, compared to 37.1% in Hamilton County and 37.6% statewide. The school's statewide ranking has also been declining, from a high of 342 out of 574 schools in 2018-2019 to 418 out of 580 middle schools in 2023-2024, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

For example, Loftis Middle School, which is only 9.65 miles away, consistently outperforms Red Bank across all subject areas and grade levels, with significantly higher proficiency rates and statewide rankings. Additionally, the school's racial composition has shifted over the years, with a decrease in White students and an increase in Hispanic students, but the academic performance remains low across all racial groups, indicating that the school is struggling to address the needs of its diverse student body effectively.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Fall of 2013 was the first year in this new school building. The teachers have been picked from the best in the county. I can't praise this school enough. Everything is new and top of the line. The new Principal has gone out of his way to check up on students that are having trouble to see what can be done to help them. As a parent that considered going the private route, I highly recommend this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
