West End Elementary

Summary:

West End Elementary is a public elementary school in Easley, South Carolina, serving 622 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Pickens 01 School District.

West End Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools like Liberty Elementary and Crosswell Elementary, with 60.45% White, 10.45% African American, 15.92% Hispanic, and 13.02% two or more races. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by state assessments, is generally lower than the district and state averages. For example, the school's 3rd grade ELA proficiency was 45.6% compared to 58.1% for the district and 53.8% for the state. Additionally, West End Elementary has a high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Compared to nearby schools like Powdersville Elementary, Wren Elementary, and Hunt Meadows Elementary, which are part of the Anderson 01 district, West End Elementary generally underperforms in academic measures. The school's statewide ranking has also declined over the years, from 158th out of 624 South Carolina elementary schools in 2017-2018 to 363rd out of 638 in 2023-2024. This suggests that the school and the Pickens 01 district may need to implement targeted interventions and strategies to address these challenges and improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My child was in K-5 here and we absolutely loved this school. I loved the staff, the way they taught, everything! We unfortunetly had to move to Columbia SC into school district 1, and they are NOTHING like West End. It has actually brought us to the decision to move back to Easley and put our daughter back in this wonderful school. I honestly cant wait and my daughter is so excited to be back there. We love you West End!!! Close Quote

Open Quote Getting a teachers conference with your childs teacher is next to impossible. School is behind North Carolina school my child attended previously. Administration acts like it's a bother to answer questions and never return emails. Unless you go into the school personally, you will not get any answers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
