As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is a National Blue-Ribbon School--the first ever in its county and only the 3rd ever between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. Both of my kids attended here and were challenged every day...one in the Arts, the other in the Sciences and now a Chemical Engineering major. If you want the easy way out for your kids, you should find another school. This one is back-to-basics and no-nonsense yet designed to prepare kids for a variety of vocations--and for the workloads they can expect in college. Close Quote

Open Quote There is too much homework for these kids. My daughter has no study halls at all. This is causing too much stress and she is a good kid. I am worried about her especially since she stopped eating lunch because there is no time to eat if you are at the end of the lunch line. After school...she has homework the rest of the night. She has no time for sports or playing outside in general. The whole day consists of sitting and learning. Now there is more stress this year. No hall passes are being issued to go to lockers. As soon as three "infractions" are noted, my kid will have detention. This includes, being tardy, not having a certain book in class (unprepared), and lots of other petty stuff. Everything the kids do is scrutinized and penalized. This school has become a jail cell which includes a ball-and-chain for when the kids go home(homework). This school has gone downhill since I went there. Yes, they may have taught the kids how to take state tests, but what about the importance of balance and family? You should see the form you have to fill out if you take your kid to the doctor or dentist. One question asks if it was necessary to schedule the appt during school hours. Stop it! Just stop it! You morons! You are so petty and embarrassing. Stop thinking only about your test scores. Schools need to start later in the day and implement no homework weekends and holidays. Go watch the documentary "Race to Nowhere". It is very eye opening as a parent. Stress can lead to high blood pressure and other medical issues. Let the kids have their childhood! Come on Tyrone... stop acting like a prison warden and start acting like a loving mother/father figure! Help these kids succeed in life, not push them to suicide, drugs, and cheating. You are one school, but you can make a difference for the kids in the district. Stop micromanaging every little thing you feel the kids are doing wrong in your eyes. You make kids not want to go to college! My kid won't stay at this school. Negative reinforcement is not the way to go. Change your policies! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
