Fawn Area Elementary School

Summary:

Fawn Area Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 238 students in grades PK-4 in the South Eastern School District of Pennsylvania. The school consistently outperforms state and district averages in academic achievement, particularly in math, science, and English language arts.

Fawn Area Elementary School stands out for its strong academic performance, with 68.9% of students proficient or better in math and 74.5% proficient or better in English language arts, significantly higher than the South Eastern School District and state averages. The school's science performance is especially impressive, with 90.7% of students proficient or better, far exceeding the district and state. This high-achieving school also benefits from a low student-teacher ratio of 10.1, allowing for more individualized attention.

While Fawn Area Elementary School's academic success is commendable, the school's predominantly white student population (over 92%) may be an area for improvement, as research suggests that diverse learning environments can benefit students' development. The school's relatively low percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds (34.45%) may contribute to its strong performance, but the school should consider ways to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds and ensure equity in educational opportunities. Nonetheless, Fawn Area Elementary School's consistent academic excellence, particularly in math, science, and English language arts, makes it a standout among nearby schools, including Dallastown Elementary School, Martic Elementary School, and Mazie Gable Elementary School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Two students lives were threatened by another student at Fawn Elementary. One of the threats was a terrorist threat. The school allowed the student to return back to school the very next day without being searched. Students and staff lives were at jeopardy. No procedures or policies have been changed since this incident. One student was assaulted and bullied and was never treated by the school nurse after the assault. The school district also violated FERPA laws as the parents requested written documentation of the events that occurred and have been denied there request. The school district has not been very fourth coming with the parents and also did not notify other parents of this serious incident. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
