Wright Richard R School

Summary:

Wright Richard R School is an elementary school located in Philadelphia, PA, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 276 students. The school is part of the Philadelphia City School District, which is ranked 494 out of 606 districts in Pennsylvania and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Wright Richard R School consistently ranks among the lowest-performing elementary schools in Pennsylvania, with only 7.3% of students proficient or better in PSSA Math, compared to 39.3% at the state level and 20.4% in the district. The school's academic performance is particularly low for African American students and students with low socioeconomic status. However, the school's per-student spending has increased over the years, and the student-teacher ratio has decreased, suggesting a focus on providing additional resources to support student learning.

Nearby schools, such as Allen Dr Ethel School, Kelley William D School, and Peirce Thomas Middle School, also have predominantly African American student populations and low academic performance. Some nearby schools, like Morris Robert School and Dick William School, have slightly higher academic performance, suggesting that factors beyond just student demographics may be contributing to the school's low performance. The nearby Alliance for Progress Charter School and Frederick Douglass Mastery Charter School also have low academic performance, with proficiency rates generally below the state averages.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The principal of this school has a BA in marketing, but she worked as a teacher in the district of Philadelphia in 2004 and was
terminated for not fulfilling requirements. Ms.Taylor was assigned as principal despite having a short experience as a principal
assistant and lacking effective leadership and communication skills.
Bottom line, this person has very little knowledge about reading development and effective instruction and bullies competent teachers and comes up with wicked plans to terminate them.
Now you can understand why reading rate in R.R. Wright dropped to 10% in the years 2013-2014 and why our children are at risk. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
