Reedsport Community Charter School

Summary:

Reedsport Community Charter School is an alternative public charter school serving 606 students in grades K-12 in Reedsport, Oregon, as part of the Reedsport School District 105. This unique educational institution consistently outperforms the district and state in English Language Arts and Mathematics proficiency, with a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher spending per student compared to the state average.

The school's strong academic performance is particularly noteworthy, with 11th-grade students achieving a 61.1% proficiency rate in ELA, compared to 45.2% for the state. This consistency across grade levels suggests the school's educational approach and curriculum are effective in supporting student learning. However, the school's Science proficiency rates are more mixed, indicating a potential area for improvement. The school's high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, at 92.57%, also presents unique challenges and opportunities as the school serves a predominantly economically disadvantaged population.

Factors that may contribute to Reedsport Community Charter School's academic success include its low student-teacher ratio and higher spending per student, which can enable more personalized attention and access to resources for students. Further investigation into the school's specific educational practices, curriculum, and support systems could provide valuable insights into how it is able to achieve these strong results, especially given the challenges of serving a disadvantaged student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school changed to a charter school in February 2010, and since then it has made great strides toward improvement. It offers a Braves Session between semesters with fantastic electives, community members are encouraged to become registered to teach in their specialty, opportunities for college credit are much more accessible, and the facility itself is beautiful and well maintained. My kids and I are very pleased with the school and its potential. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
