Oakridge Junior High School

Summary:

Oakridge Junior High School is a public middle school located in Oakridge, Oregon, serving grades 7-8 with a total enrollment of 87 students. The school is part of the Oakridge School District 76, which is ranked 134 out of 140 school districts in Oregon and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Oakridge Junior High School has consistently underperformed the state average in standardized test scores for English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. For example, in 2023-2024, only 16.7% of 7th-grade students and 12.8% of 8th-grade students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to the state averages of 43.2% and 40.6%, respectively. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with male students ranking 237 out of 323 Oregon middle schools, while female students ranked 284 out of 313. However, the school's performance for Special Education students is relatively strong, ranking 33 out of 206 Oregon middle schools in 2017-2018.

Despite the school's high spending per student ($22,020 in 2021-2022) and the high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients (226.44% in 2022-2023), the academic performance of the school remains low. This suggests a need to evaluate the effectiveness of the school's resource allocation and support for economically disadvantaged students. The fluctuations in the school's student-teacher ratio and the high spending per student also suggest that the school may have the resources and flexibility to implement targeted interventions and support for students, which could potentially be applied to address the specific needs of each student subgroup.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Excellent and caring staff. My child has excelled under their loving direction and instruction. In particular, the math and music programs are outstanding. The Science program is very good, incorporating a lot of technology into the instruction. The language arts and social studies programs use discussion and projects to engage student interest. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
