Ensworth Elementary School

Summary:

Ensworth Elementary School is a public elementary school in Bend, Oregon, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Bend-LaPine Administrative School District 1. However, the school has seen a concerning decline in its statewide ranking and performance metrics over the years, raising questions about the quality of education it provides.

Ensworth Elementary consistently underperforms the district and state averages on standardized tests across all grade levels and subject areas. In the 2023-2024 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts ranged from 21.7% to 24%, compared to the district's 51.2% to 59.8% and the state's 39% to 46.9%. The school's performance in Mathematics and Science is similarly low, with proficiency rates significantly trailing the district and state. Additionally, Ensworth has lower rankings for student subgroups, such as female, male, white, and low socioeconomic status students, compared to other Oregon elementary schools.

Despite the school's higher spending per student, at $20,427 for the 2021-2022 school year, its academic performance remains significantly lower than nearby schools in the Bend-LaPine Administrative School District 1, such as Silver Rail Elementary, Bear Creek Elementary, and Juniper Elementary. These schools generally outperform Ensworth in student academic achievement and statewide rankings, suggesting that the additional resources at Ensworth may not be translating into improved student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have decided to pull my kids from Ensworth Elementary due to being bullied by staff and mistreated over all. Teacher are there clearly for a pay check and do not have children's best interest. Both my children look at school as something they don't enjoy because of Ensworth teachers and staff. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
