Elmonica Elementary School

Summary:

Elmonica Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Beaverton, Oregon, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 413 students. The school is part of the Beaverton School District 48J, which is ranked 19 out of 140 districts in Oregon and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Elmonica Elementary School's academic performance, as measured by the percentage of students proficient or better in OSAS (Oregon Statewide Assessment System) tests, is generally lower than the Beaverton School District and the state of Oregon averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's 5th-grade proficiency rates were 47.9% in English Language Arts, 36.6% in Mathematics, and 35.2% in Science, compared to the district's 62%, 48.3%, and 42.4% respectively, and the state's 46.9%, 31.4%, and 30.6%. The school's performance has been relatively consistent over the past few years, with its statewide ranking fluctuating between 191 and 329 out of around 700 Oregon elementary schools. However, the school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with male students generally outperforming female students and Asian students performing relatively well, while Hispanic and low socioeconomic status (SES) students perform significantly worse.

Elmonica Elementary School's academic performance is generally lower than the nearby high-performing schools, such as Oak Hills Elementary and Bethany Elementary, which consistently rank among the top 100 elementary schools in Oregon. In contrast, the school's performance is higher than some of the lower-performing nearby schools, such as Barnes Elementary, Kinnaman Elementary, and McKinley Elementary, which all have significantly lower proficiency rates and statewide rankings. The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Elmonica Elementary School, as well as the relatively low performance of the school's low-SES and Hispanic student subgroups, suggest that socioeconomic factors may be playing a significant role in the school's overall academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have experienced 5 different elementary schools, this is by far the WORST! The bullying is unreal, staff disorganized, miscommunication, if they even attempt, their disciplinary policy is a joke, there are 36 students in a class, and in all feels like they don't care anymore. I'm usually a laid back parent but when 3 boys corner my daughter and hit her in the face and the school tells me it was an accident without even talking to her or the staff on site to just sweep it under the rug, not acceptable. They don't want to do the work. She is still being bullied. Close Quote

Open Quote The worse school I’ve ever had to be part of. My child had Mr. B for kindergarten who was our first Elmonica teacher and our last. How can any school district justify showing 3 full length Disney films in school. Keep in mind kindergarten is ½ day at this school. Shame on them. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
