Minter Bridge Elementary School

Summary:

Minter Bridge Elementary School is a public elementary school in Hillsboro, Oregon, serving 351 students in grades K-6. While part of the Hillsboro School District 1J, which is ranked 56 out of 140 school districts in the state, Minter Bridge consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages in academic measures.

The school struggles to support the academic achievement of various student subgroups, with particularly low rankings for female, male, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status students, as well as English Language Learners. Minter Bridge also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. Despite spending approximately $17,958 per student, which is higher than the state average, the school's performance has declined over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 344 out of 701 Oregon elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 661 out of 710 in 2023-2024.

When compared to other nearby schools in the Hillsboro School District, such as W Verne McKinney Elementary, Imlay Elementary, and Rosedale Elementary, Minter Bridge is one of the lower-performing schools, raising concerns about equity and the school's ability to provide a high-quality education for all students, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Terrible school! Teachers are terrible and the overlook bullying. Kids are slapping and punching each other with no consequences and they retaliate against parents who choose not to put there kids in the bilingual program. I will be pulling my kids ASAP. Avoid this school at all costs. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
