Monroe Elementary School

Summary:

Monroe Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Norman, Oklahoma, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 484 students. The school is part of the Norman School District, which is ranked 118 out of 295 districts in Oklahoma and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Monroe Elementary School has shown a consistent improvement in its statewide ranking over the years, moving from a low of 358 out of 411 Oklahoma elementary schools in 2018-2019 to a high of 116 out of 276 in 2022-2023. The school's performance on state assessments (OSTP) is generally above the district and state averages, particularly in English Language Arts and Science. However, the school's ranking has fluctuated, suggesting that factors beyond just the student population may influence its performance. While Monroe Elementary outperforms the state averages, it lags behind some of the higher-performing nearby schools, such as McKinley Elementary and Cleveland Elementary.

Monroe Elementary School has a more diverse student population compared to some of the nearby schools, with a higher percentage of minority students, including African American, Hispanic, and Native American students. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 50.83% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year. This suggests that the school may face additional challenges in supporting student learning and achievement, as research has shown that poverty can have a significant impact on educational outcomes. The school's diverse population and socioeconomic challenges underscore the need for targeted interventions and resources to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Monroe has some great teacher but they have had a big turnover. The counselor at this school speaks a lot about kindness and fairness but her actions speak way louder than her words. She favors kids and has a popular group of students that she favors. If we did not live in this school district we would pick somewhere different. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
