Kingston Middle School

Summary:

Kingston Middle School is a public middle school in Kingston, Oklahoma, serving 286 students in grades 6-8 with a diverse student population. The school consistently outperforms the state average in academic proficiency, ranking in the top 20 out of 149 Oklahoma middle schools and earning a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kingston Middle School's academic performance is particularly strong, with proficiency rates significantly higher than the state average in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The school also has a low student-teacher ratio and higher spending per student compared to nearby schools like Durant Intermediate Elementary School, Durant Middle School, and Colbert Middle School. This suggests the school has effective teaching practices and a strong curriculum that supports student learning, even with a significant population of Native American students and those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

While Kingston Middle School's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, it has consistently been in the top 20-60% of Oklahoma middle schools, and the school has particularly strong performance among specific student subgroups, such as Native American students and those from low-income families. This commendable achievement, in the face of socioeconomic challenges, makes Kingston Middle School a model for other schools serving diverse and underprivileged populations in the Durant, Colbert, Tishomingo, Silo, and Madill school districts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter went to this school in 2019 and she was bullied by the male athletes her whole stay here and when she stood up to one male athlete she was suspended for 3 days without question. The male principal followed her around everywhere she went after the incident. So they basically show their athletes high favoritism and the rest of the kids pay the cost. My daughter is safely out of that school and I couldnt be happier. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
