Open Quote This areas best choice! Montessori has fostered my children's independence, self confidence, and love of learning. My kids love to learn and that is encouraged and rewarded at this school. The teachers take the time to recognize each individual student for their strengths and celebrate accomplishment. These teacher treat each student with respect and the students in turn treat the teacher with respect.

Non-Montessori parents might say "my child needs structure" or "my child needs to be pushed". Who will provide that structure or push that child once his school days are over.

Montessori teach the student to create their own structure. A structure that they can work, thrive, and succeed in. Montessori teach the child to push themselves to succeed. No outside reward or prize is necessary the act of accomplishing a task is it's own reward. Close Quote

Open Quote After visiting and working in other Montessori schools, I have to say, this is the most efficiently run Montessori school out there. The teachers and staff are dedicated to the education of the whole child, not just teaching to the test. I grew up in Greenville, moved to Maryland to work at a Montessori school, and moved back as quickly as I could to work here. My child will be starting in the best infant program and Montessori school out there in September!! Close Quote

Open Quote I have two active boys who are thriving at this school. The kids are encouraged to get their energy out in productive ways, instead of being tied to a desk all day (which I love!). The staff is very involved in the school and teachers take the time to develop personal, caring relationships with the students and families. This is one place in our small town where always I know I will people who share by values for strong families, the magic of childhood and the importance education. Close Quote

Open Quote Hello!
Thank you for your interest in DeColores Montessori School. DeColores is a chartered non-public school for grades K-8 and a certified Ohio Department of Human Services pre-school and day care provider. Our admissions office, pre-school and elementary programs are located at 312 Central Avenue in Greenville, Ohio. Our Jr. High (7th-8th grades) is a traditional Montessori farm school located at 6104 Arcanum Bears Mill Road, also in Greenville, Ohio.

Our Beginnings
DeColores was founded March 3, 1985. We offered Montessori education to children ages three through six in a small building on Walnut Street. In 1994, our program was expanded to include a Montessori early elementary program and which grew as out student body aged. By 2002 we became a certified child-care provider, offering before and after-school programs. September, 2009 we opened our Jr. High Farm School, making us the only provider of Jr. High Montessori education in the region.

Our Goals
Our goals are for our students to be open-minded and compassionate, to gain a sense of themselves and others, and to understand and appreciate the diversity of the human spirit. Our students are well trained in the basic academic disciplines, while fulfilling their creative, physical, emotional, social and cognitive potential. Our students love learning and to value knowledge, creativity, and humor. They are responsible, critical and caring members of our society. They recognize that they have the power and resources to effect change, and the self-esteem and confidence to pursue their goals.

Our Beliefs
We believe that children learn best through intrinsic motivation. That they succeed when they have control over their learning. We are fiercely protective of concentration. We teach peace and do not dwell on competition. Students gain life-long benefits from the practice self-discipline and independence. Our students will have a positive impact have on the world in which they live.

Admission Policy
Children who can be separated from the parent and who demonstrate independence with the Montessori materials in addition to an ability to cooperate are admitted into the program.

Admission Procedure
Interested parents should request to tour the school. Parents then observe the program to see if it will meet the needs of their student. Finally, parents are requested to visit with their student. The purpose of the visit is to provide the student with an opportunity to meet with the directress alone and to be shown some of the Montessori materials. It is intended to make an easy first encounter with the Montessori environment for the student and to determine if the child has an interest in the materials. Following the visit, the directress will notify the parent of acceptance status, by phone, generally within one week. Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. When a class is full, applicants are placed on a waiting list in order of the date of their application. Returning and former students, their siblings, and those previously enrolled at other Montessori schools have priority over new admissions. All children are accepted on a six week trial basis. About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
