Bethel Elementary School

Summary:

Bethel Elementary School is a public elementary school in Tipp City, Ohio, serving 930 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Tipp City Exempted Village school district, which is ranked 222 out of 839 districts in Ohio and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Bethel Elementary School consistently performs well on state assessments, with a high percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 83.1% of 5th-grade students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 70.6%. The school also performs well in serving its English Language Learner and military-connected student populations, ranking in the top 5 and top 3 in the state, respectively, for these subgroups. However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, from 1.8% in 2019-2020 to 19.6% in 2023-2024, which is an area of concern.

Bethel Elementary School outperforms many of the nearby schools, such as those in the Huber Heights City school district, which have lower test scores and higher chronic absenteeism rates. Additionally, the school's spending per student ($7,445 in 2018-2019) is lower than the nearby Vandalia-Butler City and Tipp City Exempted Village school districts, yet it still achieves strong academic results.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school leaves alot to be desired. If you're child is a perfectly behaved, textbook child, then this school is for you. Should you have any issues, save yourself the trouble and find a new school. The kindergarten teacher we encountered in particular was the least professional I've ever met. She spent her time yawning and acting disinterested when any concerns were brought to her. The principal is cold and uncaring. The staff were known for clerical issues. I wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy. Close Quote

Open Quote It's an old building but the staff more than make up for that, they have always been friendly and helpful. I feel my child is safe there and getting a great education. His teacher has a great communication line in place and I feel very invovled. Close Quote

Open Quote If you wish for your child to be involved with a school that is heavily supported by its community, continues to have an emphasis on the arts in education (music, visual arts, band), displays a strong commitment to excellence in academics (rated excellent on the 2010-2011 ODE State Report Card), and maintains an friendly/safe environment for its students, then Bethel Elementary is the place for your student.
The benefits of a small school community where "everyone looks out for one another" creates wonderful students who are respectful, responsible, safe, helpful, and ready to learn (these are the Bethel High Five standards we expect students to live by) and makes our school a special place.
The children are the best you can ask for in a school!
Other building features include Accelerated Reader, Rocket Math (focused on mastering Math Facts), a gifted and talented program for students in grades 3-6 who qualify, the Study Island test preparation program, NWEA Map testing for monitoring student growth and providing data for interventions, a wonderful music program under the direction of a gifted music teacher, and a very dedicated PTO group.
The principal offers a meeting and a personal tour (by appointment) of the building to parents and their families interested in finding out more about our wonderful school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
